Coconut shell charcoal in Bến Tre is produced by hundreds of traditional charcoal kilns operating locally throughout the province.
The raw materials are sourced by local traders or purchased directly from coconut processing facilities that handle whole coconuts. The coconut shells are gathered and brought to small-scale, family-run kilns. These traditional kilns are typically built from brick and use lime water-based smoke filtration systems to treat emissions.
After the carbonization process, the raw coconut shell charcoal is delivered to larger processing facilities where it is crushed, sieved, and sorted.
Most of the processed charcoal is then supplied to activated carbon manufacturers in Bến Tre. The remaining portion is purchased by BBQ charcoal producers, who further process it into finished grilling charcoal products.
